Kaliah Barker
Kaliah Barker is a Trainee Solicitor in the Civil Litigation department at Stephen Rimmer LLP, dual qualifying through both the SQE in England and Wales and the LSO in Ontario, Canada.
Kaliah is committed to making sure her clients feel genuinely heard and their interests are fully represented. She believes in transparency and mutual understanding as the means to work through disputes collaboratively.
Her practice spans landlord and tenant matters, debt recovery, dispute resolution, and employment law. She brings to her work a broad international perspective drawn from working and studying on both sides of the Atlantic.
Areas of practice
Kaliah works within the firm's Civil Litigation and Dispute Resolution team, where her focus includes landlord and tenant matters, debt recovery, employment law, and the resolution of disputes more broadly. She handles matters across the litigation process, from the pre-action stage through to trial and enforcement.
Kaliah draws on her in-house experience gained with an international technology company, where she dealt with supplier disputes, intellectual property, contracts, employment, and cross-border issues. She relies on experience with contentious landlord and tenant matters to navigate civil matters efficiently and in the best interests of her clients.
Kaliah takes a collaborative, client-focused approach, working to ensure that each client's position is clearly understood and robustly advanced.
Experience and background
Kaliah holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Sussex, where she graduated with a high 2:1 in 2022, and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Political Science from Wilfrid Laurier University in Canada, awarded in 2023.
During her studies, she took part in the University of Sussex Employment Law Clinic, for which she received the Clinical Legal Education Award. She has since completed the NCA Certificate of Qualification with the Federation of Law Societies of Canada, the Legal Research and Writing Course with CPLED, and passed both the Ontario Barrister and Solicitor Bar examinations. Kaliah is set to qualify as a lawyer in Ontario, Canada by August 2026.
Kaliah is also currently studying to complete the SQE and qualify as a Solicitor by Summer 2027 alongside her traineeship.
Before joining the firm, she spent time as part of an in-house legal team, before working as a litigation fee earner handling contentious landlord and tenant matters. Kaliah has further volunteered her legal expertise for charities, namely Well Suited – Kingston, since 2021.
That varied grounding gives Kaliah a practical, commercially aware approach and a real determination to achieve the best outcome for the people she acts for.
She joined Stephen Rimmer LLP as a civil litigation executive in 2025 and was invited to become a Trainee Solicitor in 2026. She is a member of both the Law Society of Ontario and the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
Outside the office
Outside of work, Kaliah can be found at the gym, turning her hand to just about any craft she can get hold of, or heading off on an adventure.
She is a devoted Game of Thrones fan, loving all things dragon-related, and is currently renovating a house with her spouse.
