Noelle Magennis
Noelle Magennis is a Partner and solicitor at Stephen Rimmer LLP, with a criminal practice built around advocacy, police station representation and prison law.
Noelle represents clients in the Magistrates' Court and advises and assists them at the police station, often at the most pressured and frightening moments of the criminal process.
What defines her approach is the personal commitment she brings to every case: she treats each client as she would a member of her own family, determined to do the very best she possibly can for them.
That dedication is matched by genuine advocacy skill, honed over two decades in criminal practice. Whether arguing a point of law, making a submission or representing a client in interview, Noelle is a tenacious and principled advocate who fights hard for the people she acts for, while always keeping their individual circumstances at the heart of the case.
Areas of practice
Noelle's practice covers Magistrates' Court advocacy, police station representation and prison law.
She regularly represents clients facing criminal proceedings in the Magistrates' Court, where she is admitted to advocate, as well as attending the police station to advise and assist clients during interviews.
Her courtroom experience includes successfully advancing a special reasons argument that allowed a client to keep their driving licence in exceptional personal circumstances, and securing the acquittal of a client through a successful submission of no case to answer at trial. Noelle brings the same care and tenacity to her prison law work, supporting clients with the issues they face while serving custodial sentences.
Experience and background
Noelle studied Law and Politics at Queen's University Belfast, graduating in 2003, before qualifying as a solicitor through the College of Law in 2004.
She went on to complete the duty solicitor qualification, enabling her to represent clients at the police station and in the Magistrates' Court in her own right.
Over the course of more than twenty years in criminal practice, Noelle has built a reputation for committed and effective representation, and she is now a Partner at Stephen Rimmer LLP. She is a member of the Eastbourne Law Society, and her experience spans the full breadth of lower-court criminal work, from first attendance at the police station through to contested trials in the Magistrates' Court, alongside her work in prison law. Noelle is registered with the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
Outside the office
Outside of work, Noelle treasures spending time with her two young children, and enjoys returning to Northern Ireland to see friends and family.
She is a committed advocate for raising awareness and understanding of special needs and autism, something close to her heart as the parent of a child with autism and global developmental delay. A keen reader, she counts the Harry Potter books among her favourites, and the Maldives is top of her travel wish list.
