Sophia Oarton

Sophia Oarton is an Associate Solicitor in the Private Client team at Stephen Rimmer LLP, advising clients on wills, probate, powers of attorney and the administration of estates.

Sophia helps individuals and families plan for the future and navigate the practical and legal matters that follow a bereavement, work that calls for both technical knowledge and a good deal of sensitivity.

She has a particular enthusiasm for estate administration, dealing with both taxable and non-taxable estates, and she takes care to guide clients clearly and patiently through processes that can feel daunting at an already difficult time. Whether preparing a will, putting a lasting power of attorney in place or supporting families through probate, Sophia brings a calm and considered approach and a genuine commitment to achieving the right outcome for each client and their loved ones.

Areas of practice

Sophia advises across the full range of private client matters, including the preparation of wills, the administration of probate, and estate and intestacy administration. She prepares lasting powers of attorney and handles deputyship applications, and has particular experience supporting and managing the affairs of vulnerable clients.

Sophia especially enjoys the administration of estates, dealing with both taxable and non-taxable matters, and she approaches this work with attention to detail and care for the families she supports. She takes the time to understand each client's circumstances and to explain the options available clearly, so that decisions can be made with confidence.

Experience and background

Sophia studied Law with Business at the University of Brighton, graduating with a 2:1 in 2015, and went on to complete a Master of Laws at the University of Law in 2018, achieving a Distinction.

After university, she specialised in the preparation of wills and lasting powers of attorney, before joining the private client department of a firm of solicitors operating across the South East, where she dealt with a wide-ranging caseload.

Sophia joined the Private Client team at Stephen Rimmer LLP in 2023 and now advises on the full breadth of private client work, with a particular focus on the administration of both taxable and non-taxable estates. Sophia is registered with the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

Outside the office

Outside of work, Sophia can often be found at home with her husband and much-loved cats. She enjoys pottering around in the garden and trying out new recipes.
