Our Family Department
The lawyers in our family team offer a sympathetic ear and constructive advice and guidance. They are members of Resolution (formerly known as the Solicitors Family Law Association), which is an association of over 5000 family lawyers committed to promoting a non-confrontational approach to family matters. Whilst we will be firm in protecting our clients’ interests, when required the Resolution code of practice does assist in resolving matters in a constructive and cost effective way. The team includes mediators providing an alternative method of resolving family disputes.
Sadly, every year roughly 150,000 marriages end in divorce. The legal process of ending a marriage or civil partnership often has a major impact on all family members, both emotionally and financially. At Stephen Rimmer LLP we are conscious that no relationship breakdown or family problem is the same. As such we endeavour to tailor our approach to meet each individual’s requirements.
Unmarried couples who separate face many of the same stresses associated with marriage breakdown. Many people are surprised to discover that there is no such thing as a “common-law marriage”. An already stressful situation can be aggravated when it is discovered that the rights between cohabiting couples are very different to those of a married couple.
Our diverse society throws up many family problems. Issues surrounding the arrangements for your children can be the most challenging. We have experienced child law practitioners to help ease the burden and anxiety of these sensitive issues.
We also appreciate anxiety in a relationship can spill over into domestic conflict. We are experienced at seeking protective orders to safeguard from the worst consequences of aggression or abuse.
The Family Team at Stephen Rimmer LLP provide specialist and understanding advice across a broad range of matters affecting you and your family and we will act quickly and effectively to protect your interests with any of the following :
