Stephen Rimmer LLP is one of East Sussex's major practices. Situated in picturesque Eastbourne and working for businesses and individuals in the East Sussex area the firm offers an unrivalled Training Contract for graduates. The firm consistently takes on trainees from all disciplines and backgrounds and prides itself on the level of training, expertise and flexibility its newly qualified solicitors exhibit following their training at the firm.

Stephen Rimmer LLP understands the need to develop talented solicitors from within. Most of the fee earners currently practicing in all departments carried out their training at Stephen Rimmer LLP. What sets apart a Training Contract at Stephen Rimmer LLP is the flexibility and responsibility given to our trainees to develop. The structure of any Training Contract is discussed with potential trainees from the outset at the interview stage and the firm look to allow trainees the optimum time to train and work in the area of their choice.

Whilst most firms offer a standard 4 seat, 6 month rota training contract, Stephen Rimmer LLP offer a more flexible training contract that provides a minimum of 3 seats (including at least one contentious seat either in Family, Criminal, Commercial and Civil Litigation) designed around the firm's needs and the trainees' future aspirations.

We are a department based practice which allows trainees the opportunity to work in the department of their choice and the area of law they desire. The emphasis is always on building strong foundations in the principals of client care, managing a structured workload and specific and succinct legal advice. All trainees must show a desire to have a hands on approach to work.

While our main focus is always on the character and personality of the individual, our requirements for a training contract are listed below:
  • At least a 2:1 Degree from a good university
  • Good local links to the East Sussex area (although applications from individuals outside this area are welcome)
  • 280 UCAS points
  • The undertaking of good extra curriculur activities
We comply with the Law Society training requirements and each trainee has an appraisal every six months to discuss their workload and development. While no guarantee is given for future employment following the training contract, Stephen Rimmer LLP always considers keeping trainees on after the completion depending on the candidate.

The firm offers Trainees:

  • 20 days holiday per annum
  • Law Society's minimum recommended salary for outside of London (reviewed after first year)
  • Flexible start date
  • Good Work / Life balance

The firm has up to 6 trainees at any one time and selection is not made at any particular date. Applications are therefore welcome at any time from graduates.
